The Eagles, the NFL, and Politics

I grew up in Philadelphia. I love the City and will always be proud of my Philly heritage. A key part of my upbringing, was and is the Philadelphia Eagles. I am a die-hard fan. Until this year, althought I love the Eagles, I always expected disappointment. When the Eagles batted down the hail mary at the end of the Superbowl, my wife had to assure me that the Eagles had won. Their win was something I will always remember and treasure. The only issue with that sweet win was knowing that my Dad had not lived to see the Eagles hoist the trophy.

Tonight I was disturbed to hear that the President disinvited the Eagles from their planned White House visit. According to ESPN:

“The statement says that the defending Super Bowl champions disagree “with their President because he insists that they proudly stand for the National Anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.”

As an Eagles fan, the President’s statement disgusts me. The national anthem had nothing to do with some players skipping the visit. Many Eagles were not planning on attending the photo op because of the President’s policies. The President is simply spreading a false narrative.

I usuually do not write about politics. I strongly believe that the President is a stranger to the TRUTH not just in this case, but in almost all cases where he opens his mouth. My Dad once told me that someone he knew would always lied. I asked him how he knew and He said. “It is because his lips are moving.”
